All About Coaching

coachingplantMaximize your potential.  Partner for an insightful process focused on your opportunities and challenges.

Coaching is a professional partnership between the coach and the client.  The end goal is to help you restore balance to your life and create change that propels you forward to becoming the best of who you are in your life and your work.  Our partnership will help you not only gain clarity, but it will also help you build on your strengths, and act on a strategy that gets you where it is you want to go.

Coaching is different from therapy in the following ways:.

In coaching, the focus is on what is right with you. It is designed to support you to grow personally, professionally, and even spiritually in ways designed to help you achieve the maximum of your potential.  You design your own path in coaching in collaboration with your coach.  You will develop and improve your current strengths and skills in ways to help you achieve your personal and/or professional objectives.

In psychotherapy, the focus is on identification and treatment of what is “wrong” with you. Your therapist holds the power and designs a plan for your care in alignment with best medical practices. A medical mental health disorder must be diagnosed, recorded and reported for your insurance to consider reimbursement. While coaching is not covered by medical insurance, it is important to be aware that any mental health diagnosis arising from therapy becomes part of your permanent medical record which may be called into question when you apply for certain other types of insurance or employment.

As for your coaching engagement, I bring you almost 40 years experience in the areas of individual and interpersonal restoration and transformation. I provide my own unique blend of Consulting and Coaching Psychology to folks in positions of leadership and service to help them bring the best of who they are to their life and their work.  I am best known for my intuitive and nonjudgmental approach. My passion is helping you make those connections that bring together disparate information, situations, people, theories, and practices.

In addition to my license as a clinical psychologist in the State of North Carolina, I am credentialed as a coach by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), which holds the highest of standards both in the US and internationally for coach accreditation. The ICF promise is:

Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment.

Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful and whole. Standing on this foundation, the coach’s responsibility is to:

* Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve
* Encourage client self-discovery
* Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
* Hold the client responsible and accountable

This process helps clients dramatically improve their outlook about their situation in their life and their work, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.
